About Us - Kibbutz Nahal Oz

Background on the Pioneering community along the Gaza border
Kibbutz Nahal Oz is located just 0.5 miles from the Gaza border. Founded in 1953, our kibbutz is home to approximately 450 residents. As a symbol of Israeli resilience and pioneering agriculture, it is a small community focused on farming. The community sustains itself through a dairy farm, a poultry breeding farm, and crop fields, fulfilling its mission of ensuring thriving life and livelihood along the southern border.

Facing unprecedented loss, trauma, and destruction
On Saturday, October 7th, 2023, the day of the Kibbutz’s 70th-anniversary celebration, Nahal Oz woke up to the horrific attack, with over 250 terrorists that crossed the fence, brutally torturing, murdering, abducting, and massacring families, destroying the dairy farm and infrastructure, looting and halting life as we know it. 16 members were murdered, 8 kidnapped of whom one hostage is still held in Gaza.

The Nahal Oz Community Today
The Nahal Oz community remains scattered and displaced, with only a few dozen members returning to our beloved kibbutz. Our community is currently split across four locations throughout southern, central, and northern Israel. Despite the trauma and ongoing uncertainty we face, we remain committed to resilience and hope. We are dedicating every effort, resource, and plan to support our community’s strength and connectedness, with the strong wish to return to Nahal Oz as soon as the security situation permits.
